Sen. Rosen says telehealth is needed to help senior citizens with health care access – Axios

Health care providers need to be accessible to senior citizens in rural and underserved communities, especially through telehealth, Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) said at an Axios event on Friday.

Driving the news: Telehealth appointments have become more prominent since the COVID-19 pandemic and could soon become the norm.

  • Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif) told Axios in July that any infrastructure plan passed by Congress should address broadband access for telemedicine.
  • There is legislation in both the House and Senate that would address audio-only telehealth policies and broadband access.

What she’s saying: “We have to be sure when we talk about seniors that they have access to care in rural or underserved communities,” Rosen said.

  • “We need to get providers out there and we need to give them telehealth and even telephone, and that’s really important, and we need to expand the providers that are there,” she added.
